The Cal NERDS - New Experience for Research & Diversity in Science - provides undergraduate students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with opportunities in undergraduate research, higher education and graduate school readiness, career preparation, diversity, leadership, and community service.
Through programs such as the Physics Transfer Course and MCAT Prep, and workshops including LinkedIn and Business Dining Etiquette, students receive support and guidance that strengthens them academically and helps them more easily transition from student to professional.
Other programs including the Bergeron Scholars, NSF CAMP, UC LEADS, and PROTON provide funding for undergraduate research in labs at Cal and also on other UC campuses. These outstanding STEM students also attend professional conferences where they present their research.
These programs and initiatives are made possible through a landscape of partnerships with the Biology Scholars Program, College of Engineering, Compass Project, Department of Physics, EOP, Graduate Diversity Program, NSF LSAMP Statewide Office, Solano Community College, UCOP, and UC LEADS Statewide Office. In addition, guidance by the Kwan Eustace Family Foundation and Faculty Advisory Board help shape program offerings.
