Timeline of the Professional Development Program

The PDP program was created more than 40 years ago by Uri Treisman who was then a Ph.D. student in mathematics and mathematics education.  The intensive academic enrichment sections in Calculus (Math 1A and 1B) and Linear Algebra (Math 53 and 54) were led by Math Graduate Student Instructors who helped students build solid foundations for subsequent STEM courses by collaborating with their peers.  Each semester, up to 100 undergraduates mastered mathematical concepts and learned new college-level study strategies as they collaborated with peers on extended problem sets and additional assignments that go beyond the usual course requirements.

Today, the Professional Development Program works with the Student Learning Center (SLC) to offer Math Adjunct courses for underrepresented freshman in Math 1A and 1B and sophomores in Math 53 & 54 and Statistics 134.
